Today was a surprising day, weather wise. We had snow, hail, rain, and sunshine all in one day. It wasn't unbearably cold, but quite a change from the 60's and 70's we've become accustomed to. Since it was cloudy and snowy most of the day, we traveled to our favorite place to hang out in the mornings, Barnes and Noble. This evening, however, we decided to rummage through our Outdoor Kit for a quick activity to enjoy on the porch while the rain continued to fall.
In Rebecca Cohen's book, Fifteen Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids she talks about creating kits for spontaneous adventures for all kinds of weather. You can create one for picnics, rainy days, sunny days, hiking, or a hodgepodge of games/items that you can take outdoors anytime for family fun. Here are a couple of pictures showing what we have collected so far for our Outdoor Kit. We will be adding to it as time goes on!
|In the closet beside this kit we have our raincoats, fold up chairs, and boots.|
|Bubbles, umbrellas, suntan lotion, a sweater, Melissa & Doug binoculars, books, balls, sidewalk chalk, and sunglasses.|
So this evening we decided to grab the bubbles and head outside while dinner was cooking in the oven. You thought the bubbles were hilarious...especially when we stomped on them to make the pop! I just loved hearing your belly laugh each time! Soon, you will be able to blow the bubbles yourself!
