Over the past couple of months, you have insisted on doing as much as you can on your own. You want to feed yourself, put on your shoes and socks, comb your hair, and even brush your teeth without any help from Mom and Dad. I love to watch as your independence grows. Sometimes I think to myself, "What 20 month old runs to the bathroom and demands to brush their teeth when they see Mom doing it?"
Since hair and teeth are high on your priorities I decided to get out the comb and toothbrush to use for an activity other than the life skills they are related to...painting! NurtureStore published an inspiring list of 52 Kid's Painting Ideas, so we decided to put the actual paintbrushes aside and try our hand at creating a couple of pictures with different painting tools.
I printed out two coloring pages for each masterpiece. We began with a picture of a shark showing gigantic teeth that were in desperate need of some brushing.
| And you're done! |
Once the shark's teeth were clean enough based on Grady standards, we moved on to the comb. I found a picture of a man in need of some hair. Before I was able to add a face, you grabbed the comb and went to town.
My heart continues to melt each time I see the look of joy on your face when you are either loving an activity or are proud of something you did all by yourself. Those smiles never get old!

I love both paining tools! It looks like your son did too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! He did enjoy them! :)
DeleteLovely. I've used the toothbrushes for a storytime craft. It is precious to see 15 2 & 3 year-olds rush to the tables and stick the "paint" brushes in their mouths. LOL, it's a good thing they were all new! I love the comb painting, great idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I did turn my back only to have my son stick the painted brush in his mouth once! He did not make that mistake twice!
DeleteThat is sooo cute! :-) what a fun idea and a great way to learn what "things" are for...

I love this idea, but I worry that my 18 month old might get mixed signals about what his comb and toothbrush etc are for ... do you think maybe I'm over thinking it?
ReplyDeleteFirst time mum ... I second guess myself alot
