Day 41: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Day 41
Duration: 1 hour

It was so lovely to get outside and enjoy the sunshine today.  I have been wanting to do this activity with you for some time - actually since you got your gardening tools for Easter.  So, I rounded up some items that we had lying around the house, found some rice and playdough, then put everything in one big tub for our little garden. We reused the cocoa playdough from another sensory tray so it was nice and crumbly, like dirt.

I had intended for you to plant all of the flowers and "water" them with the blue rice, but you're 20 months old. You have your own ideas.  I showed you how to do one and you sort of followed along.  Then, I just encouraged you do your own thing.  You took the lead and had a wonderful time enjoying the dirt and insects.

At first, I couldn't understand why you weren't putting any "dirt" into the pots.

Then I realized that you didn't have your gloves on!

Now you're ready to get your hands dirty!

Then you decided that gloves were overrated, so you tossed them aside.

Great Grandma even planted a few flowers with you.  She loves to garden!

Mmmm, smells sweet!

We thought they were so pretty, that they deserved to be add to our actual garden in the yard. Picture perfect!

We would love for you to join us on Facebook to see what we'll be digging up next!  Also, if your kiddos enjoy sensory activities, you can find all of the ideas we've tried out here!
