Day 44: Outdoor Cooking Creations

Day 44
Duration: 30+ minutes

This morning I walked into your room only to find you mixing and cooking in your kitchen that we set up a while back.  Since you were feeling a little domestic, I thought that I should let you experiment with real food outside! There have a been a lot of great posts out there with kids showcasing their "Top Chef" abilities, so I figured you could give it a try too!

I raided the cupboard for any old or expired food products so that we wouldn't be simply wasting food and here's what I found: a pudding mix, pasta, and stale cereal. I added some colored rice that we made a while back, split green peas from our Travel Sensory Bins, the leftover spices from our Art with Spices activity, and a few pom poms for color!

I put them all on a tray with different cups and scoops, and most importantly, a large mixing bowl.  Here's how it looked before you dug your hands into it!

I set up all of the items on the table and you got to work.  We eventually moved our ingredients to floor so you could reach them easier and make a better mess! Then, I sat back for a while and just watched you work. It was fun to see you examine all of the tools and ingredients before you decided what you wanted to work with.  I was also surprised that you transferred ingredients from bowl to bowl instead of just mixing them in the large one. You had your own little mini creations!

You've also been trying to talk more, so we worked on saying "scoop" and "pour" during our time outside. You were getting so close to saying pour by the end!

You even had some fun pretending to eat your creation!

  2. I agree with Jode. The colours are just fabulous! What fun and colourful sensory play. This type of play is one of my daughter's favourites for sure.
By the way, I was wondering if you had a "featured" button? I'm adding all the buttons for where I've been featured and I wanted to add yours as well. Had a quick look but can't seem to find one. Let me know. Debs :)
