Summer Virtual Book Club ~ Mo Willems

JuneSummerVirtualBookClub

When the June author for our Summer Virtual Book Club was announced, we were intrigued.  We had never read a book by Mo Willems, so we headed to the library to see which books we had to choose from.  Luckily, they had several checked in and we ended up walking out with Should I Share My Ice Cream?

This was such a cute book about sharing, making decisions, and spreading  happiness to others by showing kindness.  Gerald really wanted to share his ice cream with Piggie, but was torn between eating it all himself and making his friend happy.  So, we decided to help him out and make enough for everyone to share!  Of course, we made our own ice cream!

We gathered up all of the "ingredients" that we would need for some Elephant and Piggie ice cream dessert.

~ shaving cream (tinted with bath fizzies)
~ ice cream scoops and spoons
~ bowls
~ sprinkles (colored rice and coffee grounds)
~ red pom poms for the cherries

Then, we slapped on your little apron and you dug right in creating this tasty treat for your little friends.

Piggie watches on in anticipation!

Those silly spoons were slowing you down, so
you dug right in with your hands!

Don't forget the sprinkles!

This isn't what I had in mind when I asked you to feed
Gerald some ice cream.  Sigh.

Of course, Piggie couldn't be left out of the fun.
He got a whole bowl to himself!

The cherry just tops it off!

How sweet of you to share with Mommy, too!

Mess? What mess, Mommy?

Wow! You really know how to create a bit of chaos!  I was so surprised that you dug right in with your hands.  It was wonderful to see you becoming more and more comfortable using all of your senses during play.  The more you experience with your senses, the more you learn.  Clean up was a breeze because the shaving cream washed right down the sink.  I think Gerald and Piggie thoroughly enjoyed their ice cream party!

Don't forget to link up any of the fun you've had while reading a Mo Willems book.  If this author is new to you as well, just stop by any of the co-host's blogs that are participating in the Summer Virtual Book Club for some introductions and inspiration!

  1. We also love playing with shaving cream! I haven't tried using it to "feed" my son's toys, though. We will have to try that soon

    1. I was shocked by how much he touched the shaving cream. He usually sticks to his utensils when touching something messy! :)

  4. I think I would have a hard time keeping my kids from actually trying to eat it. It looks like it'd be yummy even though it's shaving cream. lol! I bet it was so much fun for him!

    1. Haha...yes, I'm surprised that he doesn't try to eat some of our activities because so many have to do with food. I've come to the conclusion that he is super serious about his food, so he knows what will be good to fill his belly! :)

  6. That's a great idea to use the bath fizzies to color the shaving cream. I could use that for so many activities! Looks like he was having a blast.
